The Best Way To Motivate Yourself
“You want to live but do you know how to live? You are scared of dying and tell me, is the kind of life you lead really any different from being dead?” - Seneca
Have you ever lacked motivation to do what is necessary? What do you think is the best way to motivate yourself? Is it money or rewards?
The best way to motivate yourself is this: Attach yourself to reality.
Reality will help you get back on track to accomplish your goals and dreams. How? Think of your time and mortality.
You can never recover time spent. Every minute you waste counts. Every second you are getting closer to your death.
Look around you, when you see people who wastes their time so much on meaningless things, are they even aware of what they’re doing?
When you attach yourself with reality, it will give you a sense of urgency. A sense of urgency to focus on present instead of thinking about the future. A sense of urgency that time here in the physical realm is short.
The reason we are not motivated enough is that we are so out of touch with reality. We enjoy and chase too much pleasure. We forget that fact that life is hard. The only way for us to grow and achieve success is by facing adversity.
Another reason people are out of touch with reality is because of fear.
They don’t like to think of their mortality because of their fear of death. Death is part of life. Living creatures die every day including us humans. Losing someone is hard, but we have to accept the fact that without death life isn’t complete. There’s a great stoic saying by Marcus Aurelius about death, in Meditations (a collection of his private notes.)
“You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.”
Don’t get me wrong on this one, you might think that you need to work 24/7. You must learn how to balance your life. There’s time to do what is necessary and rest. Besides, a well-rested mind and body can make you more productive.
Keep in mind: The moment you were born your clock towards your death is ticking. This is the reality of life you need to accept. Whenever you feel unmotivated, attach yourself to the reality. Always remind yourself that life is full of uncertainties. The only thing you can control is yourself and how you react to each situation.
