Are We Too Attached To Social Media?
When Facebook and its siblings(Instagram and WhatsApp) went down for 6 hours yesterday, people panicked a bit. They went to Twitter to express their thoughts about its outage. It took about six hours before Facebook went back online again. It made me realize we have too much attachment to social media.
Don’t get me wrong. Social media is a great asset for everyone. These companies opened the doors that allowed us to express ourselves, create our dream business, brands, etc. It’s a great tool for marketing and advertising. Without social media, you might not see this blog post, there is no Millennial Thoughts.
However, if we don’t use it for its significant benefits, isn’t it just a waste of time? Social media is a double-edged sword. There are pros and cons. Our attachment to it is dangerous to society itself. We forget what living in the moment feels like. Our perception and beliefs change because of the digital avatar we created.
The next time social media gets a day off, take a deep breath, spend time in nature, talk with your loved ones and remind yourself that even without technology, life exists and it is amazing.
