Create A Life You Don't Need To Escape From

“Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape.” – Seth Godin

Living a life that you don’t need to escape from is just a dream for a lot of people. Is it possible to create and live a life like this?

In today’s day and age, the people who want to escape their current lifestyle is growing. These are the type of people who live for the weekends and absolutely hate Mondays. These are the people who always checks for the calendar to look for the long weekends so that they can file their “sick” leave. They wait days and weeks to go by for them to break free on that lifestyle.

Meanwhile, there’s another group of people who are self-aware. They know what they want. They know their purpose. They know their version of success. And they love every single day. They managed to live a life of not giving a f*ck on what other people tell them.

What group do you belong?

Don’t get me wrong, we need to go on vacation sometimes. Visiting a country is entertaining, spending a day or two on a hotel near the beach is fun, traveling to other places to see the beauty of our earth is a great adventure. I love doing these activities, BUT I don’t use these activities as an escape. There’s a difference between enjoying these moments and using these as an escape for us to feel alive again.

Also earning money to get our daily resources is necessary for us to survive. We live in a pay to play world without money we are going nowhere.

To answer my question, Yes it is possible to build a life you don’t need to escape from while earning money for you to provide your needs, not your WANTS. This is a huge problem nowadays as we often confuse our NEEDS and WANTS.

So how are you going to build or create a life you don’t need to escape from? Here are some ways that you can use:

Identify what you are good at

So what are you good at? The problem with young adults these days is they don’t know what they specialize in. So how can you create a life you don’t need to escape from first and foremost if you don’t know what you’re good at. You can identify by knowing what your passion is. Are you good at writing? Music? Sports? Arts? Business? Comedic skits? There are a lot of things you excel in, and I’m sure about that. In our society, showing everyone what we specialize in is easier because of the internet. We are connected with each other now. Just a simple click of like and share, people will see your work.

Disregard the noise

The noise from our critics is a huge dream killer. The doubters and critics will always be there to question and criticize what we are doing. As you from my previous posts I’m always critical about handling the critics.

One of my favorite author Seth Godin once said “Critics will hate your work because it isn’t for them.” which absolutely makes sense. These people criticize because they don’t know what you’re doing and the might have failed which led them to stop pursuing what their dreams and live a life without taking risks.

Change your job or your surroundings

Let’s be honest here, most of us don’t like our jobs or our environment. So if we hate our jobs why are we still working nonstop? It’s because of the money. We have trained our minds that money is the source of our happiness, but it’s not true. Some people are wealthier than us, and they are not even happy with what they have.

They just kept following the materialistic desire of the Ego which is a trap of endless consumerism lifestyle. It is a cycle of wanting more but not knowing enough is enough.

“Some people have everything they probably ever wanted in life and never have enough“ - Nas.

In terms of surroundings, we need to surround ourselves with positivity. Get rid of that trash you on see social media. What I mean by trash is people who are show-offs or flexing their new cars, shoes, mansions and other stuff. Follow people who give you value, which shows you the up and down of pursuing their goals. If your friends are toxic, get rid of them. Tell them you need some space because you want to become a better person and have a meaningful life.

Getting rid of negativity in your life is a powerful and a humbling experience. You’ll recognize that there are better things in life and understand the true meaning of happiness.

Identify your version of success

What does success look like to you? In our society “Success” is defined by specific achievements, how many cars and houses you got, and how big is your bank account. BUT success means a lot of different things to us. A lot of people defines success on how they changed the world, how they left a legacy for the future generations to look up to.

There are lots of meanings of success. Yours will be different than mine of course. So you must identify your version of success for you to build a life you don’t need to escape from.

What is your purpose in life?

Why are you here? What is your purpose? A four-word question that makes people think about themselves. If you already found your purpose in life, lucky you. While there are other people out there, who are indecisive in every way and does things without a purpose. Most people who live a life without a purpose are like these robots in a factory system. These people are what you can call Sheepwalking.

Don’t be like them. Or if you are one of them then identify your purpose because having a purpose in life sets you on a path and can lead you doing meaningful things that can affect you and your surroundings.

It is impossible to create a life you don’t need to escape from without knowing your purpose. So find it and live with it!

Remember life is short if we don’t know how to use it.

Live in the moment. Enjoy the process and accept life the way it is. Stop living for the weekends. And have self-awareness.

Create a life you don’t need to escape from.
