Meditation On The Move

February 20, 2019

The world we live in today is always moving. Every morning people rush going to their jobs while others go to schools. Every night people are rushing to go home to spend some quality time with their family. In our life, we all know that every minute counts. We can’t go back in time.  We can only move forward.

Since people are always busy, they forget one of the most important qualities in life. They forget to become mindful, they don’t stay present all the time. When we talk about mindfulness, it’s about staying present, getting aware of our thoughts and emotions. When we are mindful, we don’t allow our thoughts and feelings to dictate our life. We start to become rational.

To become aware, we must learn how to meditate. Without learning meditation(even the basics), becoming mindful is difficult.

The most common way of meditation is to sit still, focus on our breathing, use the power of visualization and stay present. But if we don’t have time to add meditation to our morning routines, then how can we do it? We can meditate on the move.

While walking or driving, we can start meditating by becoming aware of our breathing pattern(taking deep breaths counts! Inhale… Exhale...), have a good and proper posture, relax, release the tension and start bringing awareness to our precious body. To know that our meditation worked, we will notice that we are focused, more aware of our thoughts and emotions, and we feel refreshed. Meditation is a mental exercise, so do this every day and explore its beautiful effects!

Other people do other types of moving meditation, the Chinese, for example, do Tai Chi and Qigong. In Japanese tradition, moving meditation is also known as “kinhin” in which practitioners move slowly and continuously while staying aware of the body.

In our daily lives, we can insert the practice of meditation. Let us stop the excuses and learn to stay present.
