How To Increase Productivity

March 23, 2018

Let's be honest with each other here. You're not supposed to be reading this on your phone or computer right now, right? You probably have something important to do. I don't know maybe assignments or projects that are due before the end of the month? But instead you decided to waste your time by looking at your social media accounts, and you clicked this post.

Clearly, you lack the motivation to do the work and your productivity skill is below average or maybe even average. Let's say you lack motivation because there is no money involved or you are pretending you love what you do but deep inside you know you hate this job.

Well, you clicked this blog post at the right time, talk about luck. Down below you can read productivity tips that are proven to help you how to get more work done. Remember nobody will do your tasks, but you and you're not alone in this struggle. Enjoy!

Clean your room

The best way to have a productive day is by starting your day the right way. Cleaning your own room or even fixing your bed once you wake up puts your mind in work mode. Not only at home, but you can also try this trick in your office as well. Once you are organized, your eyes send a signal to your brain that you are less distracted which gives you more productive power. Include this in your morning routine and see the difference it makes.

Meditation

Meditation has been a practice by successful people and monks. The great benefit of meditation is that it helps you focus on the present moment. I know it's hard to meditate especially if you are not used to it.

Just start by finding a quiet place, sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes and focus on your breath. By this practice, you'll learn to clear your mind and notice that you are not always in the present moment. Being in the present moment means focusing your energy on what is happening Now. We often distract ourselves by listening to these voices inside our head which affects our productivity. With a quiet mind, you can focus on your task correctly.

For first-timers of meditation, I recommend you do it for 3-5 mins and then slowly increase it as long as you are used to it. You can also download the app called Headspace. It's an excellent app for meditation.

Isolate Yourself

You must be asking right now, "Why would I isolate myself?". Well, here's the thing when you isolate yourself you can focus, be more productive and get great ideas.

I learned this while reading Deep Work by Cal Newport. He mentioned in that book on how JK Rowling wrote the final part of Harry Potter she went to Edinburgh's Balmoral hotel. By being alone in that room, she managed to finish the book that the fans were desperately waiting for.

From my experience, I agree with this one actually as I'm writing this one I'm in a quiet place and alone. Trust me this tip works if it doesn't you can email me anytime.

5-Second Rule

Mel Robbins the television host, entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker invented this rule by counting down 5,4,3,2,1 you can boost your productivity and do your tasks.

You and I are motivated by something whether extrinsic or intrinsic, right? But the problem is we are motivated, but we don't want to act. By doing the 5-second rule, you activate the trigger in your brain that enables your body to move and not waste the idea in your mind.

So, what are you waiting for? Countdown and say it out loud and do your work!

Exercise

How many times do you exercise in a week? You might be saying how can I exercise when I have work? Well, do it on the weekends or do an early morning exercise. By exercising your body moves and your brain is functioning at its highest level which improves your awareness. Not only training improves your productivity, but it also makes you happy and healthy. If you are not used to exercising, you don't have to run for an hour go to the gym and do high-intensity training.

You can do simple exercises like sit-ups or jumping jacks. If still are lazy then try the 5-second rule you just read.

These are just simple productivity tips. There are more tips out there but these tips are proven by science and successful people. Now that you have the idea or knowledge inside your head all you have to do now is act.

“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today.”  Nolan Bushnell
