5 Reasons Why You Fail To Achieve Your Goals

Each one of us have goals in our life whether its short-term or long-term goals we want to achieve it because it gives us the meaning of success. Your specific goal carves you a path that no other people want maybe because they are afraid to fail or change their current lifestyle.

 

If you are happy with your current lifestyle and you feel that you can achieve your goals by living that way, that's great I'm happy for you. You can now stop reading this blog post but if you're the type of person who doesn't care about the glitz and glamour then continue reading.

 

So, what is your goal? Do you want to become an entrepreneur? Musician? Artist? Professional Athlete? Doctor? And so on. You want to be somebody right? But are you willing to put in the work to become that somebody?

 

Here's the thing what you don't realize is the way you live is preventing you to reach your goal or ambitions in life. So, I made a short list on why you can't achieve your goals.

 

Listening to other people's opinion

 

I'm sure that you've been in this position before whether it's starting a business, choosing your school and, making decisions in life we ask for the opinion of somebody. Sometimes their opinion urges you to make a choice that you are not happy about. You end up believing them because they are older than you. Of course, you'll never be happy because it's not what YOU truly want.

 

So where does that lead? Regret. Here's a real-life example, a lot of people on their death bed say "I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me." Look, this is your life whether you go all-in on what your dreams are or you live by the expectations of other people and live a life full of regret.

 

Value of inner circle

 

You have friends and family, right?  Are they supportive of what you're doing? Do they have a fixed and negative mindset? If they do, please cut them off or if you really love them give yourself some space for a while. Your environment actually helps you achieve your goals. If your environment is full of "You can't do this…", "You don't want to do…", "I can't get better." "This is all you can do…" Please change your environment before you become like them.

 

These are the type of people who are afraid to fail because they think that what other people say about them matters especially now in this digital world. It's just like a team if you have a loser on your team you won't win a championship. But if you replace that loser with a guy even who doesn't know how to play the game yet he has a winner mindset you have a chance to be champions.

 

Afraid to take risks

 

You may have been told in your life that risk takers have more chance of failing than succeeding. Yes, that is true but if you look at the successful people they took risks, right? 

 

The difference is when they took that risk they persevered in improving their craft. Look at Elon Musk's company SpaceX and Tesla. He took the risk of building an electric sports car(Tesla) and built re-usable rockets (SpaceX) at first, SpaceX failed to launch and land their rockets 3 times and Tesla is on the brink of bankruptcy but did he stop taking risks? Of course not. He and his company continued to improve from their failure because they have a purpose.

Managing your downtime

 

How do you manage your downtime? Do you binge-watch Game of Thrones and cat videos all day? Play video games? Watch Netflix all-day? I have to admit to you but this is one of my problems as well. Instead of watching Ted Talks or reading books I usually play video games or watch some shows on Netflix.

 

Managing your downtime is critical especially if you want to improve your craft day-by-day to reach your goals. I'm not saying partying is bad or leisure is negative but you need to balance it. You have 17 hours a day how will you manage it? Let's say you have a 9-5 job (that you hate) to pay bills or expenses then you still have 5-6 hours left. Similar to school, when you go home instead of watching cat videos try watching videos that you gain knowledge from like TED talks, Impact Theory and so on. What are you willing to sacrifice to reach your goals?

 

Too many excuses and complaining

 

Excuses are probably the common reason why we can't achieve our goals. You and I hear it all the time "I'm not ready…" "I can't do it…", "I'm not good enough…" I'm going, to be honest with you. Nobody cares about your excuses and complains. Excuses just expose how weak your confidence is. If you are not ready then when will you be?

 

We often hear excuses especially when the opportunity is right in front of us. If you really believe in yourself and your abilities then why make excuses? How can you reach that goal or ambition of yours if all you do is complain? Here's what normally happens, there's an opportunity right in front of you and then you'll make excuses or complain about the situation. Then what happens next? You'll say to yourself "I should've accepted that…". So where does that lead you? None other than Regret.

 

Remember you need to have self-awareness. Audit yourself, know your strengths, weakness, and focus on what you control. Be a purpose-driven individual. Never chase money, fame and, recognition.
