It's a brand-new year, technology is evolving fast right in front of our eyes just like a Lambo speeding through everybody in a freeway. We look at our phones all the time to see what's going on in this interconnected world.
We scroll down through our social media accounts endlessly to waste time and keep us distracted. We idolize people without knowing who they really are behind the cameras and screens. Our attention span might be getting shorter and shorter because of how fast we receive information with these devices.
To be honest, most of us don't even know what we're doing with our lives and all we do right now is post these videos and pictures just to show everybody that we are happy with our lives. Yes, you might be externally happy but what about the inner You.
I'm writing these because I think it's time to take a quick break with the technology and materialistic drive which causes stress to connect with our inner self to find out who we really are.
Meditation is the key
Have you ever tried meditating? This method is uncommon these days because of the technology we have. We often see in movies, tv shows wherein a monk sits down and be still for a long time. Some teens, young adults find these funny but this is a powerful thing to do explore ourselves.
When was the last time you just reflect on the things you do, become a watcher of your thoughts, focusing on your breathing, being still and doing nothing to see how beautiful nature is?
I bet it's been a long time.
Before I started meditating I was a believer in following what the mind says. "Buy this, do this, post this, etc…" But I realized that if we keep doing this we just feed our ego or our false-self and it doesn't give us a truthful and happy life which causes us stress because we keep pretending to become somebody that we aren't supposed to be.
These are just desires or pleasures that we do to show everybody our status that feeds our ego.
As Millennials we stress on things too much and we don't realize that there are things beyond our control.
Once you start meditation you become a watcher of your thoughts and learn self-acceptance.
Meditation showed me that these material things are not that important as you think it is. Yes, I know they have a value but do you really need this brand-new phone, car, shoes, bags etc... even though you already have one or it's not you who want it but you Ego?
It's up to you on how you answer this question.
This 2018 let's focus on inner happiness by living a truthful life and not listening to our ego.
